One of the mainstays of the Veranos de la Villa festival is the presence of international projects in each edition of the Festival so that the people of Madrid and visitors to the city can learn more about the culture of other countries through our programme. In this 2022 edition, the honour of inaugurating the Veranos de la Villa festival falls on Portugal and more specifically on Alcobaça S.A. Marionetas and their show Lúmen · a Love Story, a production that features large-scale articulated figures that require the involvement of local towns and musical institutions. 

This amalgamated effort has given rise to this production in which some 50 participants will light up the Madrid night in one of the city’s most iconic spots, the Plaza de España no less, a meeting place for locals and visitors alike, through a narrative of music and movement in which the entire audience will participate. The grand five-metre high characters will wander around the built heritage, telling stories that will intertwine with local stories. The intention is to enhance the magnificence of humankind and its history through its monumental creations which century after century have shaped a heritage that it is up to the people of today and tomorrow to preserve.
