La Sub25

Black Esplanade (Madrid Río Park) / Outside the Nave de Terneras (Matadero Madrid) / Nave de Terneras

The third edition of The Sub25 has arrived!

If you don’t know what we’re talking about, The Sub25 is Madrid’s young art festival in which artists up to 25 years of age take part.

Organised by 21distritos in collaboration with the Veranos de la Villa festival, it will host all manner of activities in all sorts of different artistic fields of endeavour, everything from concerts to exhibitions, fashion, contemporary dance performance art pieces, break and much much more!

I can hear you asking yourself, where’s all this going to happen? What’s the schedule? Relax! Here’s all you need to know in just over 140 characters.

The fun starts on Tuesday 25 July outside the Nave de Terneras in Matadero Madrid. From Tuesday 25 to Thursday 27 July, at 9pm in the evening, just as the sun starts to go down, you’ll be able to enjoy a wide range of activities from different disciplines. On Tuesday 25 we’ll be putting on a freestyle football show, on Wednesday 26, Galina Rodríguez will be there to teach us how to dance various Afro dance styles such as Amapiano, Ndombolo and Afrobeats, and on Thursday 27 we’ll be able to enjoy an exhibition of break courtesy of members of the Spanish Olympic team. The idea behind all these activities is that you take part in them and give them all you’ve got.

The weekend brings the festival’s pièce de résistance! We kick off at 8pm on Friday 28 July in the Black Esplanade in Madrid Río Park - if you’re a skater you know where it is; if you’re a dancer, it’s just opposite the Compañía Nacional de Danza; if you like plants, it’s beside the greenhouse and if you were at the Sub25 last year, it’s in the same place! On the bill you’ll find DJ Blnco, Fran Laoren, Deva, Ede and Alba Reche. And on Saturday 29 the beat goes on with DJ Final Boss, the LEDB Collective from Colombia, K1za, Ede and Santa Salut.

During the course of these two days there’ll also be a "tunéate" or “tune-up” area with stalls where you can upcycle your clothes, have your hair braided or get your nails done, get made-up with brilli brilli glitter or with a more extreme style if you feel that way inclined! You can even get some henna tattoos to add that extra touch to your festival look. You’ll also find active hubs dedicated to diversity, gender, accessibility and sustainability where you can pick up information and share different experiences.

Or maybe you’d prefer to chill out a little? Never fear, just a few metres away, at Nave de Terneras, you’ll be able to check our graphic and audiovisual exhibitions by different young artists al fresco.

But there’s even more! We’re working on several activities that will help you mellow out after the concerts... Watch this space!

And the best thing is that they’re free, as is the case with everything we do in 21distritos, so come on, we’re waiting for you!
