Cine caliente #1

Rosa Belmonte + MENEO

Marisol rumbo a Río

One of last year’s major surprises returns to the Veranos de la Villa festival: Hot Movies, the film cycle that calls for a return to our roots of neighbourhood cinemas and those good old summer cinemas with their soundtrack of crunchy crisps and intermissions so we could obey their plea to “visit our bar”. Interruptions in Hot Movies thus become a trigger for a creative explosion that aims to restore the value of the shared artistic experience to the screening room.

In this opening session of the series, curated by La Juan Gallery, journalist Rosa Belmonte invites the audience to watch Marisol rumbo a Rio (Fernando Palacios, 1963), with successive and continuous interruptions for commentary, analysis, music and whatever else might take her fancy. The result is a new way to watch a film that goes far beyond cinema, one that actually takes the film as a material with which to create a unique piece of living art.

The musical accompaniment will be provided by Rigo Pex, better known as MENEO, a Guatemalan musicologist, performer and presenter.
