Thunderous folk and progressive Gregorian

dos chicas con los ojos cerrados

Tarta Relena was formed in 2016 by two singers who wanted to use a cappella to explore the sounds of different vocal music styles. The last thing they wanted was to create a conventional record label or categorise Mediterraneanism. Rather, Tarta Relena wants to put its own spin on a repertoire ranging from music from oral tradition to songs by singer-songwriters which are connected in some way to the Mediterranean region.

In this concert, contralto Marta Torrella and soprano Helena Ros will present their new album, Fiat Lux, in Madrid for the first time. On it, they give a voice to powerful, important female figures from different eras, exploring the timelessness and transcendence of their voices and discourse, revisiting them and singing them from a 2021 perspective, because the love poems of Sappho of Lesbos or, for example, traditional Sephardic songs address the same emotional problems we face as individuals today. Whether in Ancient Greece, the medieval era or at the height of the current global pandemic, the “I” undergoes the same processes of joy and pain, then turns the page and starts again, unable to prevent things from happening.
