FROM PITINGO TO CHABUCA GRANDA

pitingo de frente con gesto de tocar las palmas

María Isabel Granda y Larco (1920–1983), known around the world as Chabuca Granda, was a Peruvian singer-songwriter of Creole waltzes and Afro-Peruvian rhythms. Among her most widely known compositions are La flor de la canela, El puente de los suspiros and Fina estampa. Artists all over the world have sung her lyrics, including María Dolores Pradera in Spain, finding in her compositions a sensitive and delicate expression of music.

Coinciding with the Bicentennial of the Independence of Peru, we pay tribute to one of the most renowned female Latin American voices of the 20th century with the flamenco artist Pitingo taking to the stage as the master of ceremonies, alongside Lucho González, arranger and guitarist for Chabuca Granda and Mercedes Sosa.

An evening of tribute in which Pitingo takes the public on a journey through the Peruvian composer and performer’s most celebrated hits, defined as “elegance in the form of song”, including among others, Chabuca Limeña, a beautiful piece dedicated to Granda by Manuel Alejandro.
