Raül Refree, one of the most innovative European producers of the past decade (Rosalía, Lee Ranaldo, etc.), was impressed by Lina’s voice when he saw her sing at Clube de Fado in Lisbon. Lina, a classically-trained fado singer who has released two albums and is an expert on Amália Rodrigues, selected some of the late Queen of Fado’s classics and they immediately began work on a joint project.
Together on stage, Raül frames Lina’s voice in analogue clouds with brilliant arrangements, bringing a unique, electronic vision to fado that underscores its universal nature. Lina is deeply moving as she gives heart-wrenching renditions of songs that tell of unrequited love, sailors and uncertain fates, each one a landmark in the history of fado, with an utterly haunting voice. Sometimes you have to break the rules; that’s how you end up making history.
