This adaptation of El diablo cojuelo by director and playwright Aitana Galán and Jesús Gómez Gutiérrez will make its Madrid debut at Veranos de la Villa. First presented at the 2019 Almagro International Classical Theatre Festival, it’s a sort of road movie through the landscapes of 17th century Spain in which Madrid, Toledo and Seville serve as the backdrops for a story of flights and persecutions in a world where Heaven, Earth and Hell all coexist, and where allegories –Madness, Narcissus and Fortune– parade around with their retinues, pretending to be more human than the humans who invented them.
Alternating fiction with documentary texts and structured around a chorus brought to life by five actors and two musicians, the production plays around with the sounds and exuberance of the language of the Spanish Golden Age in a contemporary work that revisits and showcases the words of one of the most important poets and playwrights of Spain's cultural heritage.
A production by La Radical Teatro, UDA Teatro and Cine S.L, in collaboration with Crea SGR and INAEM - Spanish Ministry of Culture and Sport
