Bournonville, Robbins, Amarante and a trio comprised of Aguiló, Alosa and De Luz. Three prominent choreographers and a piece dedicated to the great musician Arriaga will mark the return to the capital’s stages of the Compañía Nacional de Danza, with a programme that pays tribute to health workers for their dedication and professionalism during the COVID-19 crisis and leaves no doubt as to the stylistic versatility of the company’s dance crew.
This event will also mark the return to Madrid’s stages of Joaquín De Luz, at the invitation of Veranos de la Villa. We’ll be able to see the current director of the Compañía Nacional de Danza in one of the works by Robbins that were part of his repertoire during his years with the New York City Ballet, his artistic home before returning to Spain.
We’ll also be able to enjoy an iconic piece by Bournonville, a driving force in the renewal of the ballet of his time, who successfully recognised and reflected Spanish artists’ technical and interpretive skills in his style, and Love Fear Loss, by Brazilian choreographer Ricardo Amarante, inspired by the life and work of the unforgettable Edith Piaf. The programme will close with the Madrid premiere of Arriaga, a choreographic work that pays tribute to the music of young Basque classical music composer Crisóstomo Arriaga (1806-1826), featuring pieces choreographed by Mar Aguiló, Pino Alosa and Joaquín De Luz.
