We will say goodbye to summer and to the festival with an extraordinary concert conceived as a thank you to the city of Madrid by Carmen Linares, whose generation –including Paco de Lucía, Camarón de la Isla, Enrique Morente and José Mercé– represented a golden age of flamenco. In 2001 Linares became the only female flamenco artist to ever win the National Music Award.
The grande dame of flamenco will take to the stage for an homage to the art of flamenco in a show entitled Cantaora, featuring a repertoire of essential songs that catapulted her to the top of the industry, earning her recognition as a living flamenco legend.
The singer will perform classic songs from her own Antología de mujer as well as Federico García Lorca's songbook, in addition to offering tributes to Enrique Morente, Paco de Lucía and Mercedes Sosa. Special numbers will include a duet of fandangos with the great Huelva-born flamenco singer Arcángel and a flamenco rendition of the classic song Pongamos que hablo de Madrid, accompanied by the flamenco compás (rhythm) of Jerez-born artist Tomasito.
