The 21st century has positioned Madrid as one of the world’s top culinary destinations, owing in no small measure to the city’s chefs and confectioners, who keep Madrid’s distinct gastronomic identity alive while blending tradition and more unconventional influences with uncommon flair. This year, which also saw Madrid named Ibero-American Capital of Gastronomic Culture, the organisers of the Veranos de la Villa festival wanted to seize the opportunity to showcase this gastro-art, which nourishes both the stomach and the soul.
In collaboration with the Spanish Federation of Chefs and Confectioners (FACYRE), we have invited cooks and confectioners from the capital ––ranging from Michelin-starred chefs to a new generation of culinary artists–– to create one recipe for each of the programme's activities, in an endeavour closely tied to the other arts featured at the festival. Some of them you can make yourself at home, while others will be available at participating restaurants during the festival. Because summer, and this festival, are also meant to be savoured!
