Banda Sinfónica Municipal de Madrid
Once again this year, the Veranos de la Villa festival will have the privilege of welcoming this orchestra whose roots are deeply embedded in popular music. Founded at the beginning of the 20th century, it is currently conducted by Jan Cober. The Municipal Symphonic Band of Madrid can normally be enjoyed in the National Auditorium or the Palacio Municipal de Congresos or on the bandstand in the El Retiro Park, not to mention in other concerts held in districts around the city as part of the City Hall’s cultural programme.
On this occasion, for the Veranos de la Villa festival, the BSMM will be joined on stage by Antonio Serrano, considered one of the greatest harmonica players of all time and the person responsible for introducing the harmonica to flamenco in our country. Such is his musical versatility that he has been involved in all manner of projects and collaborations in other musical fields such as jazz, classical music, tango and pop, and in this concert he will be performing a programme that includes George Gershwin's Cuban Overture, Eduardo Moreno’s Prelude for Harmonica and Band, a selection of tunes from the musical Miss Saigon by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein.
With the collaboration of the Municipal Symphonic Band of Madrid
